Light Mediterranean Meals Paired with Ample Dessert

Dolce: Sweet & Spicy Cashews

sweet-spiced-cashews-mainToday’s recipe features a favorite new dolce of mine – sweet & spicy cashews! Here is the recipe that I adapted from Oatmeal with a Fork, kicking the heat up a notch (or two!) with a blend of chili powder. I also replaced the allspice in the original recipe with cinnamon. I have been making batches of these cashews in bulk. They make a perfect {somewhat healthy} after-dinner treat. They also are a nice gift for a foodie friend.

These sweet and spicy cashews just may make a guest appearance at this weekend’s party for the Academy Awards. –jacque

Ingredients
{serves six}

1 1/2 cups cashews

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cayenne

1/2 teaspoon aleppo chili

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a mixing bowl, mix together the maple syrup with all of your spices and the sea salt.

3. Add the cashews to the bowl and mix so that the nuts are thoroughly coated with the sweet & spicy mixture.

4. Spread the nuts out onto the baking sheet.

5. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until the nuts are toasted to a golden brown color.

6. Allow the nuts to cool for a bit before serving, which is the hardest part. Your kitchen will smell amazing and your’ll want to dig in right away – trust me!

    I was out of maple syrup so I used silan which I purchased in Israel. They were yummy!

      Glad to hear it. We’ve never tried cooking with silan. How else do you use it?
